Understanding Market
In today's luxury sanitaryware market, most preminum brands offer products that gravitate towards a homogenised design language dominated by minimalism.
The majority of offerings reply on: Subtle variations of the same basin forms: round, oval, or rectangular. Focus on material surface finishes such as matte/glossy ceramics, natural stone, marble, and textured or metallic coatings rather than exploring form innovations. Standard, integrated countertop basins that favor ease of cleaning over visual or sculptural appeal. This has led to a design fatigue where brand differentiation is primarily defined by branding, material richness, and finish not form or user experience.
Market Relevance: Why now?
Design-conscious consumers are seeking more than just function, they want statement pieces in their living and hospitality spaces. The residential-luxury crossover trend (where homes borrow boutique hotel aesthetics) demands signature products that feel curated, not catalogued. Craftsmanship and bespoke narratives are becoming as valuable as brand logos in the luxury segment, especially among next-gen buyers.
“In the world of hospitality, toilets have the power to transform the customer’s experience, for better or worse. Today, bathrooms should be used to extend the branding of your restaurant, bar or hotel.”
“what consumers consider to be luxurious will be different for everyone. It is generally agreed that for a bathroom to be considered ‘luxury’ there must be a combination of features that create a look and feel that goes beyond the average bathroom. With many people still spending much more time in their homes than before, it’s no surprise that the bathroom has now become a higher priority space.”
Steve Kate - Marketing Director of HiB
"A luxury bathroom needs to have a certain level of opulence and elegance. It is not just about the fittings and fixtures, but also about the design elements that make it stand out."
Ideation + DFMA
New forms were explored against existing brands, and a feasible wireform was selected. Dimensions were refined with industrial and technical input to suit CNC bending. A 1:1 scale model was finalised, followed by a catalogue showcasing the wireform sanitaryware range.
Principles of Wireform Design
Proximity: The wireform structure reduces visual clutter, creating a more open and spacious look.
Transparency: The see-through design allows light to pass through, enhancing the sense of openness.
Simplicity: The minimalist approach focuses only on the essential elements that blend seamlessly with the form.
Aesthetic: The wireform design showcases the beauty of the structure and craftsmanship.
Versatility: The design adapts effortlessly to different spaces and styles, offering broad applicability.

CMF Specifications
The sculptural basin is a celebration of contrast and craftsmanship, uniting a rich mix of materials - ceramic, jade, marble, and glass. The supporting structure is crafted from stainless steel, available in copper, brass, black, and silver finishes. Each colour is carefully chosen to intentionally mismatch the basin and frame, creating a visually striking composition. To ensure both form and function, the surfaces are treated with PVD-coated metals for enhanced durability, corrosion resistance, and a refined aesthetic. Additionally, nano-ceramic coatings are applied to repel water and resist staining, significantly reducing maintenance while preserving the product’s pristine quality.
Prototype Fabrication
The wireform structure was handcrafted due to the lack of a CNC bending facility. Each of the 24 parts was manually welded, with loops closed in collaboration with a technician. All welding points were marked using a top-view template to ensure precision. The parts were then assembled and welded together to form the complete wireform structure.
A base was 3D printed, layered with clay, and polished to achieve a refined surface. The frame was polished using metal polish and a scrubber. To protect the structure from rust, a clear gloss spray was applied, followed by a white gloss paint to replicate the appearance of ceramic.

Feedback
“It is very luxurious and unique. This doesn’t look like a regular bathroom sink. The circular metal design feels artistic, almost like a sculpture.”
“The juxtaposition of organic and geometric elements is compelling. The wireframe basin support adds industrial elegance.”
“How could you think that? It’s absolutely mad!”
