Objective
Identify user pain points and behaviour patterns during packaging, carrying, and managing of gear for outdoor adventures (camping, hiking, trekking).
Goal
Understand real-world frustrations and missed design opportunities to inform user-centered product design.
User Pain Points
Durability: Bottles dent or crack when dropped.
Leakage: Cap seals wear out or leak.
Cleaning: Narrow necks hard to clean.
Functionality: Not modular or adaptive.
Temperature: Water heats up quickly or freezes.
Opportunities for Multifunctionality
Modular cap system: Swapped lids - straw cap, filter cap, seal cap.
Boil + Drink: Bottom fire-safe metal compartment for boiling (with foldable handle)
Cup integration: Detachable or screw-bottom that doubles as cup or bowl.
Clip + Hook system: Carabiner-ready, mountable on bike or bags.
Temperature control: Double-wall insulation or reflective wrap.
Hygiene + Cleaning: Width mouth, self cleaning UV, easy-to-detach parts.
Design Strategy Takeaway
Users want a compact, rugged, and cleverly multifunctional water bottle that:
Does more (filter, store, heat, serve)
Takes up less space
Doesn't compromise usability or comfort
Solves 3+ hydration needs in one design
Ideation
Inspiration and mood boards matter, as the research indicates the direction and users' needs (targeting users on adventure). A few forms were explored, and multifunctional features were added appropriately and practically. With the help of experts, the dimensions were finalised.

Smart Utility Features and Functional Interactions
Visuals highlight removable parts like the filter and utility module, and emphasise ease of use through simple gestures such as single or long presses. It also includes charge status indicators and secure locking mechanisms, reinforcing the product’s blend of user convenience, portability, and multifunctionality.
Lighting Feature
The 350-Lumen latern consumes approximately 4W of power can run for around 25 hours on a fully charged 20,000mAh battery (5V output). The light can also be used via a wired connection while charging.
One press toggles the light on or off.
Water Warming Feature
The insulated bottle's thermostat consumes approximately 11.6Wh of power, can warm by 30°C for 2 full times on a fully charged 20,000mAh battery (5V output). The warming feature can also be used via a wired connection while charging.
Long press toggles the warming feature on or off.
Power Bank
The 20,000mAh power bank can charge upto 3 devices simultaneouly through it's plug-in charging ports (2 USB type-A and 1 USB type-C). The battery can be charged either via a wired connection or through a solar panel.
The remaining battery level is indicated by 4 LED lights, each representing 25% of the total charge.
CMF Specifications
The design utilises a combination of polyurethane or silicone-infused coating and liquid silicone rubber (LSR) to minimise impact from falls and maximise grip. The dark colour scheme underscores its purpose for adventure.
Packaging + Dimensions
The sustainable packaging mirrors the design language of the bottle. The cylindrical form is interrupted by a black branding strip, while the cuboid packaging features a similarly positioned branded surface.
The bottle is designed to hold a volume of 1 litre (33.8oz).
